Citywide Networkers - "Gatekeepers"

I have adopted the term "Gatekeeper" as I believe it embodies many aspects of caring and responsibility to a city.

NEHEMIAH 7:1 After the wall had been rebuilt and I had set the doors in place, the gatekeepers and the singers and the Levites were appointed

I believe the role of "Gatekeeper. serves to bring the Christian church to
unity while giving her a common voice, thereby lifting the profile of the church in your community.

I also believe the role of "Gatekeeper" is one of serving.

As a practical guide, the following 12 points are offered as a model for establishing effective citywide networking.

1. Establish who is the 'Gatekeeper' of your city/town.

2. Establish prayer support for your Gatekeeper and appropriate Trust Board oversight.

3. Gatekeeper should establish rapport with their city/town - Ministers/Pastors.

4.  Gatekeeper should attend all meetings possible... eg: Ministers Assoc. etc.

5. Gatekeeper should establish a rapport with Mayor of your city/town.

6. Also establish rapport with Maori Leaders, Komatua, of your city/town.

7.  Establish rapport with your city/town media Editor/Reporters/Photographers.

8. Gatekeeper should compile and keep updated Data base of their city/town.

9. Gatekeeper needs open lines of communication to other town/city churches.

10. As soon as possible have access to Internet/E-mail facilities.

11. Help develop short and long term goals that will give Gospel opportunities.

12. Gatekeeper roles develop by... Relationship, Relationship, Relationship.

The above 12 points give the basis upon which the King's Christian Network has been able to develop a Network in Gisborne city. I believe this model can be applied to any !Yew Zealand city/town.

Establish who is the "Gatekeeper" of your city/town.

How do you identify a "Gatekeeper"... Networker...? I believe the following 10 points will help you to identify those who are most likely to fulfil the Gatekeeper role in your city/town.

1. Obviously will need to be a committed Christian.
2. Don't just assume the person is male.
3. They won't necessarily be a Minister or Pastor.
4. They most probably have, or have had, a job or position within secular employment that has given them a wide circle of contacts within your city/town.
5. Will most probably have access to, or have been involved with the media in your city/town.

6. Most probably will have computer skills.

7. Will have to be someone who is acceptable to the majority of Ministers/Pastors in your city/town.
8. Will have to have the ability to accept Traditional and Pentecostal viewpoints without causing offence.
9. Will have to be cross culturally sensitive.

10. I believe it is an advantage to have been brought up in your city/town or to have lived there for a minimum of 10 years.
