Creativity Reflects Infinity

Musings on Walking with the Infinite

Multiplicative Infinite Creativity

There seems to be in each of us a searching, a reaching out to create, and create with beauty, skill and unusualness. The desire to explore new dimensions: the painter of light and colour, the business person of new product, the academic of new knowledge; the explorer of new lands; the anthropologist of understanding new mazeways of cultural minds.

The productivity of the artist is not just in a production but in seeking to produce that which produces. So deeper than the search for an artifact is the search for life infusing an artifact.

It seems we each receive a canvas and some paints with which to develop our masterpieces. My given canvas was the world, as I read the promises made to me in prayer and the word, to be a prophet to the nations. The tools were the capacity to write, the discipline of learning, to preach, the intent to model what I taught with authenticity, the engagement in understanding from the inside of cultures.

The mandate was to find the infinite, as he engaged with the pain of the poor, and in his creativity transformed the poor and their poverty. The search lead through theology and anthropology to spiritual leadership, from economics to pedagogy to philosophy, formation of socially cohesive groups to movement dynamics.

But the beginning of the search, the canvas, was in the Presence of the divine. And his voice. He mapped out the canvas in dreams and visions as I soaked in the word of God, the scriptures. That presence embraced me with a Father’s love. The word spoke of his purpose, his destiny for me. Love and faith were anchored in the certainty of the Provider of all things who would provide and who superintends all things.

And central to knowing him was the central pivotal point of the Universe, an old gnarled cross, empty ( for he is risen!). The ultimate place where all these infinities meet. His love as he took that heavy baggage of the horrific regrets that we all carry, and in it healing and wholeness as he took our wounds in his stripes on a beaten back. And the divine presence of his Spirit promised after he rose, who comes in when we lay our burdens at his feet, and turn from our sins into light from our pursuit of darkness. That Spirit that leads and reveals.

The canvas spread. Love required love multiplying to others. Faith resulted in leading others into new dreams. Identity lead to facilitating the healing of being for others warped, destroyed and damaged. His word mutiplied out into foundations for new life for lost ones. Communication grew, publishing, writing, researching into new knowledge. Each step of love both engendered light for me and required the search for wisdom. Wisdom lead to the academy and deeper into the realm of the Spirit of wisdom who reveals others and futures.

So my life’s half-complete canvas became a walking with others and the one who in the beginning was light, life, truth, being, community, communication, structurer of universes, creator of all manner of wonky galaxies, creator of love within humanity, source of wisdom and knowledge. As he waked among the poor.

All the infinities at the edges of the creative searches find their integration in the infinity of beings. How little is heard of him.

I have a few years of strength to finish my canvas – at this stage the creation of interactive video-based delivery systems among the poor of a domain of multiple fields of knowledge – the release of the urban poor into freedoms, the creation of cities of God, of light, of love, of laughter, of wisdom, of wealth, of dignity.

  1. Indeed if we are down and worried and reach deep inside to the precious existence of our soul as an expression of divinity in ourselves that’s where creativity comes from as a cherished gentle peek into infinity that brings peace and confidence that we never walk alone.
