Infinite Voice!

What to do when your voice has been cut off!? As is true for most of my friends who are fathers.  When for the years of our teenagers rebellion, the most critical things in life are ringed around with, “Don’t talk to me!” or, “You are preaching!”, or “That was fine for your generation!” – as if they are inherently different moral beings, more superior than the past generations. When we try to maintain communication at lower levels of small talk, so that relationships are not destroyed, but that very core of being, the essence of flourishing, we see being denied, and so like all parents of my generation, we grieve, and grieve, but are forced to keep silent. I have written for others, but not being a pastor, my kids have rarely heard me preach, so perhaps know little of the core values that sustain me through the chaos of apostolic life.  Now they have companions, better halves, a husband, but these too are ringed by my kids’ boundaries, so one is unwise to step too far beyond the limits they have defined. So, I thought, maybe, in a more focused blog, I can find a simpler way, and put my thoughts into some kind of sequence of soundbites that are not too long to be dismissed.  Its strange for as one ages, the voice becomes so rich in one’s mind, like deaf Handel’s Messiah it begins to integrate many strands of the long-lived spiritual disciplines, including the disciplines of mind with breakthroughs into new knowledge, the wholeness and richness of the universe that I have so sought to understand.  And I think its been touched by the infinite – not that I hear him well, but maybe 0.000000001% Hence – spirituality is the logical center.  For the core of being is spirituality.    That spirituality, though poorly lived, is anchored in  eternity.  And truth.  Tested.  That has sustained me through much. If perhaps they could grasp these, they could live better, flourish better, impact many more tens of thousands, perhaps a few million more than I have been able to.
